However I could not be more wrong, as i enjoyed this book and the character Jack is probably best to compare to Jack Reacher Lee Child books but with a darker past, who is intent on being good but not having much luck Won't say no more as may spoil the book!
I would admit took a few pages to get going, so hang in there but it all helps build a picture of Jack in the long run Have been looking for another book series following reading the majority of Jack Reacher Stories and i think i have found it. He's fast becoming a big favourite of mine, I have to say. His writing is easy reading and I like his verbiage and his characters BUT I almost docked him one in this particular tale because of Apollo I'll say no more but I remain most unhappy about him.
I liked Jack and will stick with the series to see what happens in his future as I'm interested to see. There seemed to be the odd continuity errors We were also informed she had no parents around to assist her yet further in were told how helpful they'd been!!! I was very proud of myself for guessing where the money was stashed as that never happens as a rule. There was the odd dropped apostrophe here and there one annoyingly when he wrote Pigs Ear when it had been correct at every other mention!!
Then he wrote incubate whereas I believe it should've been intubate. However, this was an early book by him so I would hope that's why there were more errors in this volume.
I did make a note that I loved the ending so I'm looking forward to meeting Jack and possibly Dana once again. Oh, the subtitling is a tad baffling as they're called either the Debt Collector series or the Jack Winchester one depending where you're looking What more can you want?
So, this is, in summary about a man who is in the mob but at the end of a prison term wants out. Of course leaving that thing isn't generally good news.
But he is offered a way out by doing one last task. I'll say no more on the story This isn't really a mob type story along the lines of The Godfather or Goodfellas, it's more the story of one particular mobster, or ex-mobster and as much as it is a crime thriller, it is also a slow-burn love story. The violence and suddenness of the first is cleverly juxtaposed with the slow development of the other. There are sub-plots, Samson the dog a sad one and the angst-ridden and bullied teenager who looks to Jack, our protagonist for help.
There are other supporting characters too which enrich the whole, but for spoiler purposes I shan't elaborate. It can be a bit graphically violent and some of that occasionally leaves the reader unsettled. Which is how it should be, rather than seeking glorification I feel, but I can see how some might be put off by that. All in all, it's a story that hooks you and I found the more you get into it, the more that happened. It's a good read and I enjoyed it.

The story flows really well, and I quickly found myself stuck within the pages. Initially I wasn't sure whether the main character was believable, as would a hit man want to change after prison?
But it is possible. I really liked Jack, Dana and Jason and I quickly felt invested in them. I liked where the money was hidden too; I didn't guess but then couldn't believe I didn't realise when it was revealed! The fight scenes were good and enjoyable, and I liked that a bond was made between Jack and Jason.
I enjoyed the biker scene too! There are a few grammatical issues, the odd word missing, so the book needs proof reading really. The errors were not enough to effect my enjoyment of the book though. There were times I could envision the story before my eyes, rather than just words; if this was a film I would definitely watch it.
A satisfying end too. I will read more from Jon Mills, and will look out for the next book in the series. Another book I've had on Kindle for a year or so, but "Lockdown" helping me get through them. This book is self-contained in there is a conclusion to this part of the story.

There were some "oh no" "oh wow" " what the what" moments and add in uncanny mishaps, and shenanigans the good kind that makes you keep turning the pages till last page has been turned. Instead, he becomes the daddy she has always wanted and the protector against her real dad when he sales her to pay for his debt so can he protect her and is there happiness in the starts for the two broken souls?
Naomi's father is a gambler and this caused her mother to leave them. Naomi is tired of her father's gambling but doesn't know what to do. One night while they were eating dinner a car pulls up outside her father tells her to turn the lights off and to hide. She doesn't know what's going on but does as he asks.
Noah is sent in to collect debts owed to the casino. When he sees Naomi's picture he knows that he wants her. Naomi is stunned by what she's hearing and by her own father throwing her to the wolves.
When Noah leaves with her she has no idea what to expect but him treating her like he did surprised even her. Noah was a Daddy and he knew from the pitures he'd seen that Naokin was a little and he wasn't goint o let her father hurt her anymore.
Will Naomi stay with Noah? Is she safe from her father? This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
It's one of those warm and tingly, she-gap insta-romances where the poor girl is in a 'rock and a hard place' kinda situation.
She loves her father but he is a drunk and a gambler with a losing streak. She has been taking care of him for so long that she doesn't even remember when the last time someone took care of her, but Naomi knows if she left her father his bookies would kill him.
When he one too many bad bets using her name lead to a mistake that they can't out run, he lets her be taken as collateral by Noah, the debt collector. But what should seem as the worst case scenario may actual be the beginning of a new life for Naomi and her new Daddy. It's hot with of course Daddy elements.

This is the first book I've read by Jon Mills. I enjoyed it. It was interesting to read as the characters worked their ways out of problems. Interaction between the characters was good. Jul 18, Tony Parsons rated it it was amazing. Roy Gafino NJ mob family leader was there to welcome him back into society. Roy did not like what Jack told him.
Jack gave him something to remember him by. Dana owned the Orchard Motel where Jack was staying. Would Jack survive? It may be offensive to some readers. Only an honest one. A very well written adventure book. This could also make another great mobster gang movie, or better yet a mini TV series.

The protagonist , the man the reader loves, works in collections for the mob. He is a made man and proud of it. Now, we can look at his early life and understand why the mob was a fitting home for him. After four years in Rykers prison in New York, he wants to go clean. The boss says after one more collection he can leave the mob with no hard feelings. Is that not sweet? Instead, the boss leaves the mob in a a way he surely did not foresee.
Jack meets Good Read This author writes a good thriller. Jack meets Dana in this first book, and a love story has its beginning. I like this couple. They are solid in their decision to keep their relationship uncomplicated and then ruin it all by giving in to their hormones and suffer morning after mental illness!

As you can read from the synopsis the main character, Jack, is a mafia hit man who wants to go straight. The story revolves around the last job which involves an attractive woman and her son.
Possibly, the major impediment to Jack's invincibility as a hit man is that he doesn't kill women or kids but he is pretty good all the same. There's lots of action in this book, lots of bullets to the head. You ar The Debt Collector is a thrilling read, a little gory in places, a bit predictable in others. You aren't left wondering about how Jack will handle a given situation. Oh, and there is some romance but it isn't all that convincing. On the negative side, this book isn't written as well as it could have been.
There are gaps in the narrative that make no sense. While you have a pretty good idea where the money was hidden from clues given you still ask yourself, when did that happen? There are also quite a few problem paragraphs where you are trying to work out, is this something that happened in Jack's past life or is it happening now, because the flashbacks get mixed up with the storyline.
It also needs a lot of proofreading. But overall still worth four stars, I think. Jack Winchester has just been released from prison after being incarcerated for four years. Instead Roy puts Jack on one last job in exchange for his freedom; track a man named Matt Grant and collect money Matt owes him.

I typically don't prefer love interests in my action novels that causes the hero to have a soft spot, but Mills character development makes you truly care about Dana and Jason.
Both are endearing. Winchester is an intriguing hero with flaws but a great heart. The villains and plot twists add that extra intrigue that made me love this book and look forward to the rest of the series!

I couldn't finish it. It was well-written, but too gruesome for me. There was enough graphic violence near the beginning to make me shut the book and take it off my Kindle. If you have similar tastes, don't get the book. However, the theme, as far as I got, involved a crime family hitman released from prison who wanted boo, leave that kind of life.
I found it interesting and would have liked to see how he managed, but I booo couldn't stomach the violence. I don't like torture scenes. He accepts a "last" job at a small coastal town in Maine.
Much to his surprise he meets a motel owner and her son who are in great need for a man who will stand up for them. Our hero, Jack Winchester, does that nearly with his life. This is a simple yarn with a lot of fighting and shooting. It is a most worthwhile read! Author, Jon Mills takes us along as Jack colpector sent on one last hit. Follow Jack as he searches for the fre only to find a the debt collector book review free woman and her year-old son in his way! This is a pretty intense read.
Story about the mafia and their collection enforcers. Main character is an enforcer who, after serving his prison term, comes home to try and start a new life. Unfortunately the mafia won't let him retire and wants him for one last job. Story is fast moving and full of violence and suspense. This collector ends of fighting for his life and freedom. Tale is riddled with violence and blood shed. Great setup for an ongoing series. A new look at a familiar story line.
Jack is an interesting character, starting out with "do I like him or not" to "oh yeah, I do". Looking forward to more in the life of a former hit man! See all reviews. However I could not be more wrong, as i enjoyed this book and the character Jack is probably best to compare to Jack Reacher Lee Child frwe but with a darker past, who is intent on being good but not having much luck Won't say no more as may spoil the book!
