However I could not be more wrong, as i enjoyed this book and the character Jack is probably best to compare to Jack Reacher Lee Child books but with a darker past, who is intent on being good but not having much luck Won't say no more as may spoil the book!
I would admit took a few pages to get going, so hang in there but it all helps build a picture of Jack in the long run Have been looking for another book series following reading the majority of Jack Reacher Stories and i think i have found it. He's fast becoming a big favourite of mine, I have to say. His writing is easy reading and I like his verbiage and his characters BUT I almost docked him one in this particular tale because of Apollo I'll say no more but I remain most unhappy about him.
I liked Jack and will stick with the series to see what happens in his future as I'm interested to see. There seemed to be the odd continuity errors We were also informed she had no parents around to assist her yet further in were told how helpful they'd been!!! I was very proud of myself for guessing where the money was stashed as that never happens as a rule. There was the odd dropped apostrophe here and there one annoyingly when he wrote Pigs Ear when it had been correct at every other mention!!
Then he wrote incubate whereas I believe it should've been intubate. However, this was an early book by him so I would hope that's why there were more errors in this volume.
I did make a note that I loved the ending so I'm looking forward to meeting Jack and possibly Dana once again. Oh, the subtitling is a tad baffling as they're called either the Debt Collector series or the Jack Winchester one depending where you're looking What more can you want?
So, this is, in summary about a man who is in the mob but at the end of a prison term wants out. Of course leaving that thing isn't generally good news.
But he is offered a way out by doing one last task. I'll say no more on the story This isn't really a mob type story along the lines of The Godfather or Goodfellas, it's more the story of one particular mobster, or ex-mobster and as much as it is a crime thriller, it is also a slow-burn love story. The violence and suddenness of the first is cleverly juxtaposed with the slow development of the other. There are sub-plots, Samson the dog a sad one and the angst-ridden and bullied teenager who looks to Jack, our protagonist for help.
There are other supporting characters too which enrich the whole, but for spoiler purposes I shan't elaborate. It can be a bit graphically violent and some of that occasionally leaves the reader unsettled. Which is how it should be, rather than seeking glorification I feel, but I can see how some might be put off by that. All in all, it's a story that hooks you and I found the more you get into it, the more that happened. It's a good read and I enjoyed it.
Maybe not to everyone's taste, but what is? I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. Briefly, it is about a hit man on his final job before he can escape the mob. The story flows really well, and I quickly found myself stuck within the pages. Initially I wasn't sure whether the main character was believable, as would a hit man want to change after prison?
But it is possible. I really liked Jack, Dana and Jason and I quickly felt invested in them. I liked where the money was hidden too; I didn't guess but then couldn't believe I didn't realise when it was revealed! The fight scenes were good and enjoyable, and I liked that a bond was made between Jack and Jason.
I enjoyed the biker scene too! There are a few grammatical issues, the odd word missing, so the book needs proof reading really. The errors were not enough to effect my enjoyment of the book though. There were times I could envision the story before my eyes, rather than just words; if this was a film I would definitely watch it.
A satisfying end too. I will read more from Jon Mills, and will look out for the next book in the series. Another book I've had on Kindle for a year or so, but "Lockdown" helping me get through them. This book is self-contained in there is a conclusion to this part of the story.
A standard set-up story start of a mob killer having just been in a prison this time, 4 years and wanting to go straight. But just one more job As much as it is a crime thriller, it is also a slow-burn love story. There is some relevant violence and some good sub-plots. I found myself wanting to read the next chapter - which is a good pointer.

Instead, he becomes the daddy she has always wanted and the protector against her real dad when he sales her to pay for his debt so can he protect her and is there happiness in the starts for the two broken souls?
Naomi's father is a gambler and this caused her mother to leave them. Naomi is tired of her father's gambling but doesn't know what to do. One night while they were eating dinner a car pulls up outside her father tells her to turn the lights off and to hide. She doesn't know what's going on but does as he asks.
Noah is sent in to collect debts owed to the casino. When he sees Naomi's picture he knows that he wants her. Naomi is stunned by what she's hearing and by her own father throwing her to the wolves.
When Noah leaves with her she has no idea what to expect but him treating her like he did surprised even her. Noah was a Daddy and he knew from the pitures he'd seen that Naokin was a little and he wasn't goint o let her father hurt her anymore.
Will Naomi stay with Noah? Is she safe from her father? This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
It's one of those warm and tingly, she-gap insta-romances where the poor girl is in a 'rock and a hard place' kinda situation.
She loves her father but he is a drunk and a gambler with a losing streak. She has been taking care of him for so long that she doesn't even remember when the last time someone took care of her, but Naomi knows if she left her father his bookies would kill him.
When he one too many bad bets using her name lead to a mistake that they can't out run, he lets her be taken as collateral by Noah, the debt collector. But what should seem as the worst case scenario may actual be the beginning of a new life for Naomi and her new Daddy. It's hot with of course Daddy elements.
It's a short story so there is minimal character development but what is there is good though I would have liked to know more. Overall fun book. See all reviews. I actually like the fact that this novel is a good mixture of romance and suspense. The story is fast paced and very exciting.
Good plot and nice characters. I had an enjoyable read and I would recommend this book to my friends who love suspense novels. It was about Jack Winchester, who had just spent 4 years in prison, who wanted to leave the mob but some of the bad guys were having none of that. Jack was a kind and loving killer but when it was time to kill, he had no problems following through.

The story itself was engaging, if a bit predictable. Jack's character was well-developed and likable, even being a killer. At the risk of revealing a spoiler, I am happy with the state of the relationship between Jack and Dana at the end of the book.
It was a realistic ending, something not often found in this genre, and for that rea I would have given this five stars had there not been a few errors larger than typos and many repeated phrases in the book, something an editor would have caught.

Bad guys who match all the stereotypes from every film you ever watched. A love interest, of course. At least this version had a slight twist with a teenage son who added a fresh element. Despite the apparent cliches, it worked for me.
I couldn't put it down. Quick read, interesting enough :- Plot is pretty straightforward, not venturing off the beaten paths but the characters development was good enough for me to follow along and enjoy. While certainly not the most gripping, thrilling story of all time, it had good moments and I might go on with the debt collector book review free next volumes to get to read a bit more on the involvement of the Cosa Nostra This is the first book I've read by Jon Mills.
